House arrest and seizure of €15 000 in Italy – public official at regional Agriculture Department suspected of abuse of his office and aggravated fraud

Published on

The European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO) Turin is leading an investigation into a public official of the forestry department from the Autonomous Region of Aosta Valley. The Economic and Financial Police Unit of the Guardia di Finanza of Aosta will put the suspect today under house arrest and around €15 000 will be seized.

The suspect allegedly falsified documents in which he pretended to have the qualifications of pasture manager to receive EU agricultural funds for the maintenance of agricultural grasslands. By doing so, he hid the management of the agricultural grasslands by third-party farmers, which is not allowed by European standards.

He was put under house arrest to not interfere in the ongoing investigation as he could possibly be in the position of repeating the crime and alter evidence.

The investigation is also supported by the Forestry Corps of the Aosta Valley and this is the first EPPO investigation in the Aosta Valley with personal and precautionary measures.
