Pavel Zeman has spent nearly three decades proving that “boring bureaucrat” and “career in criminal justice” do not have to go together. He started out as a trainee prosecutor in Plzeň in 1998 and worked his way up to become the Czech Republic’s Prosecutor General (2011–2022).

Along the way he has represented the Czechia twice at Eurojust as National Member (2004–2010 and again from 2025), briefly advised the Governor of the Czech National Bank on law and cybersecurity, and somehow found time to run Internal Audit at the same bank. He has lectured on everything from cybercrime to corruption to the ethics of plea bargaining, at venues ranging from Charles University to the OECD, and speaks English, French, German and Russian. In July 2026, he was appointed European Prosecutor from Czechia by the Council of the EU.
