(Luxembourg, 9 July 2025) - The European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO) in Zagreb (Croatia) has filed an indictment against the former minister of Regional Development and EU Funds (MRRFEU) for abuse of office and authority, as she allegedly paid for private restaurant expenses with EU funds. This follows a thorough investigation that was initiated in December 2023.
The investigation has found that, in the period from May 2017 until July 2019 and on at least nine occasions, the former minister partially paid her private restaurant expenses with the official representation budget of her cabinet, which is solely intended for official representation purposes and not eligible for EU funding.
Based on the evidence, these expenses were partly included in the procurement costs of the EU’s ‘Competitiveness and Cohesion’ Operational Programme, managed by the MRRFEU’s Directorate for Strategic Planning and Coordination of EU Funds.
In total, the former minister acquired undue pecuniary gain in the amount of €9 732.35 – to the detriment of the financial interests of the EU (85%) and of the Republic of Croatia (15%).
During the investigation, the defendant has paid the full amount of €9 732.35 as a compensation for the damage.
All persons concerned are presumed to be innocent until proven guilty in the competent Croatian courts of law.

Hrvatska: Bivša ministrica optužena za zloporabu položaja i ovlasti
(Luxembourg, 9. srpanj 2025) - Ured europskog javnog tužitelja (EPPO) u Zagrebu podigao je optužnicu protiv bivše ministrice regionalnog razvoja i fondova Europske unije zbog kaznenog djela zlouporabe položaja i ovlasti jer je istragom utvrđeno da je plaćala privatne troškove restorana sredstvima EU. Ovo je rezultat temeljite istrage koja je pokrenuta u prosincu 2023.
Provedenom istragom je utvrđeno da je bivša ministrica u razdoblju od svibnja 2017. do srpnja 2019. nalagala da se, u najmanje devet navrata, njezini privatni troškovi u ugostiteljskim objektima koji nisu bili u opravdane službene već u privatne svrhe, i kao takvi nisu bili prihvatljivi za financiranje sredstvima Unije, plate javnim novcem.
Tako je utvrđeno da su ti troškovi dijelom bili uključeni u troškove nabave Uprave za strateško planiranje i koordinaciju EU fondova iz Operativnog programa Konkurentnost i kohezija.
Ovakvim plaćanjem privatnih troškova u ugostiteljskim objektima javnim sredstvima bivša ministrica stekla je nepripadnu imovinsku korist u iznosu od 9.732,35 eura – na štetu fincijskih interesa EU (85%) i Republike Hrvatske (15%).
Okrivljena je tijekom istrage u cijelosti na ime naknade štete uplatila iznos od 9.732,35 eura.
Sve uključene osobe smatraju se nevinima dok se njihova krivnja ne dokaže pred nadležnim hrvatskim sudovima.
