(Luxembourg, 28 May 2024) – Between today and tomorrow, the European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO) will sign a working arrangement with the Ibero-American Association of Public Prosecutors (AIAMP) to enhance their strategic cooperation, as well as bilateral arrangements with six of its members in Latin America.
The signature of the working arrangement with AIAMP will take place during the Plenary Assembly of the association, where the EPPO is an observer, to be held in Madrid on 29 and 30 May 2025.
Bilateral arrangements will be signed with the Public Prosecutor’s Offices of Argentina, Brazil, Costa Rica, Panama, Paraguay and Peru, with the support of the EL PACCTO 2.0, the EU cooperation programme aimed to strengthen the EU-LAC partnership in the fields of justice and security to combat transnational organized crime.
These instruments aim to strengthen operational cooperation with partners outside of the EPPO zone, particularly to facilitate investigations focused on organised crime, money laundering, corruption, and the recovery of illicit assets.
“In order to dismantle organised crime groups judicial authorities must work together. The signature of working arrangements with our counterparts from Argentina, Brazil, Costa Rica, Panama, Paraguay and Peru, as well as our collaboration with the AIAMP and EL PAcCTO 2.0, are a further step in improving cross-border cooperation in the fight against organised crime groups”, said European Chief Prosecutor Laura Kövesi.
The EPPO is the independent public prosecution office of the European Union. It is responsible for investigating, prosecuting and bringing to judgment crimes against the financial interests of the EU.
