Luxembourg (26 February 2026) – In an investigation led by the European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO) in Vilnius, the Lithuanian Financial Crime Investigation Service (Finansinių nusikaltimų tyrimo tarnyba - FNTT) carried out searches this week in the offices of major companies involved in the trade of electronics and household appliances.
These actions were conducted as part of an investigation into a suspected large-scale VAT fraud in international trade. The fraud is believed to have caused an estimated financial damage of around €7 million to the Lithuanian national budget alone. The total damage is yet to be assessed during the course of the investigation.
All persons concerned are presumed to be innocent until proven guilty in the competent Lithuanian courts of law.
The EPPO is the independent public prosecution office of the European Union. It is responsible for investigating, prosecuting and bringing to judgment crimes against the financial interests of the EU.
