Nikolaos Paschalis has been a Public Prosecutor since 2003 and, during the 20 years of his professional career, has served in various positions in the Hellenic Prosecution Service. From 2003 to 2015, he worked successively in the Public Prosecutor’s Offices at the Courts of First Instance of Athens, Thebes, and Piraeus, while from 2015 to 2017, he was positioned as Chief of the Public Prosecutor’s Office at the Court of First Instance of Tripoli.

During the same period, from 2013 to 2017, he acquired invaluable practical experience of EU and international judicial cooperation in criminal matters, while serving part time as the Deputy National Member for Greece at Eurojust. From 2014 to 2016, he also participated in several meetings of the Asset Recovery Offices (ARO) Platform and the ARO Platform Subgroup on Asset Management, as a representative of the Greek Ministry of Justice. Since 2015, he has been a team member during numerous EU, Financial Action Task Force and OECD evaluations, and a member of legislating committees, working towards the transposition of EU directives and the implementation of EU regulations.

From September 2017 until the end of 2020, he served as Assistant Prosecutor in the Office of the Financial Prosecutor, conducting preliminary investigations on serious tax and financial criminal offences, committed against the Greek state, local municipalities, public entities and the EU – several of which had a complex cross-border dimension. From the beginning of 2021, he continued handling similar investigations as Prosecutor responsible for cases investigated by the Financial and Economic Crime Unit (SDOE) of the Ministry of Finance and in the Office of Investigations of the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Athens, where he was serving until his appointment as European Prosecutor from Greece by the Council of the EU in June 2023.
