(Luxembourg, 28 November 2024) - The European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO) and the European Parliament (EP) have concluded a working arrangement to establish the modalities of cooperation for the purpose of protecting the financial interests of the EU.

It outlines that the European Parliament will report to the EPPO, without undue delay, any criminal conduct in respect of which the EPPO can exercise its competence. In turn, the EPPO, without prejudice to the proper conduct and confidentiality of its investigations, will inform Parliament of ongoing and closed investigations to enable it to take appropriate precautionary or administrative measures, or intervene as a civil party in proceedings.

The agreement establishes contact points and procedures to ensure swift exchange of information between the Parliament and the EPPO as well as the treatment of EPPO’s requests for the waiver of immunity of Members and staff of the Parliament and also as the requests for the waiver of inviolability of its premises, buildings and archives.

Clear, effective and fair procedures in this field are essential to ensure the admissibility of evidence in criminal proceedings before national courts and the success of the EPPO’s judicial investigations.

The full text of the working arrangement is available here.

The EPPO is the independent public prosecution office of the European Union. It is responsible for investigating, prosecuting and bringing to judgment crimes against the financial interests of the EU.
